The Phillips Collection

UI Design
Overview
I learned a lot about what it meant to push my work through the Phillips Collection website redesign. I was fortunate to see this project through from pitch to launch, despite moments of uncertainty in my personal journey as a designer—including a job switch.

Overall, this project gave me the opportunity to push my design thinking in a number of directions.

Pitch Work

During the initial design thinking phase, we wanted to showcase the potential for a website that could capture what it felt like to walk through Phillips' galleries. We used a modern and minimal design approach that let the artwork speak for itself.

Design Thinking & Exploration

Through workshops and research, it became clear that Phillips is more than just an art museum; it is a pillar of the DC community. The designs needed to dig deeper than just the artwork to capture the story of The Phillips Collection. And so, the kaleidoscopic design exploration began.

The Final Product
In the end, the design direction leaned into a cleaner, more modest look and feel that borrowed from established brand typefaces and color palettes. This direction gives Phillips the flexibility to showcase the many ways they engage with DC through art, education, events, and community programs.

From pitch work to design exploration to component building, working with The Phillips Collection gave me the opportunity to approach one design challenge from a number of angles. This project reminded me of the importance of thinking and iterating.
